Yesterday I posted about the value of specializing. I’m going to tell you about another specialist today. You may already have read about Andy Rosenfarb in the posts about attracting over 200 patients a week and treating 200+ patients a week without burning out.
Andy is an eye specialist, and I bought his book Healing Your Eyes with Chinese Medicine. It’s very good. As an eye specialist his practice is doing fantastic.
You may think you need to write a book or something like that to become a successful specialist. Not so. As Andy told me, “Some may say that it’s the book that I wrote [that boosted his practice] but that came out in June 2007. I was doing well WAY before that.”
Andy already donated his excellent practice management course as a prize for the various contests.
That was nice of him, but he didn’t stop there. He donated something else that made me choke up. Really. Before I tell you what he did, I’ve got a story.
When I turned 16, I read an article about a poker club about 40 minutes away. They played for points. Sounded like fun to me, so as soon as I got my driver’s license, I went to play.
Most of the players there were at least 50 years old, and some went to Vegas and paid for their trips out of their winnings. Think cigar-chomping old men (and women) with poker faces like a rock. This was well before poker became regular staple on TV. So obviously, I got seriously whupped.
I came back the next month and got whupped again. Even worse, and faster this time. When you lose your chips, you have to go home. I was on my way out the door in less than an hour!
I ended up talking to the poker club’s president on the way out. His name is Andy Stebnicki, and we’ll call him “old” Andy. He was a nice guy and told me that next month he’d bring me his copy of Doyle Brunson’s Super System. This was a $50 book back when most paperbacks cost about $5. I was shocked he’d loan little old me that big bad book. I had never seen such an expensive book in my life.
So I came back again, got whupped and took the book home with me. The next month I was ready.
I came back and did the whupping. I won exactly 22 and a half times my buy-in. I still remember that day - that’s the day I got hooked.
Because of “old” Andy and his kindness, I got a degree in computational mathematics and a minor in applied probabilities and statistics. I’m good enough to make a living playing poker, but I’m not interested. It doesn’t contribute anything to society, but it’s still fun sometimes. I went to a bachelor party in Vegas, and got split up from the guys before I knew where my room was. I ended up playing all night and winning $200 while waiting for my roommates. I’ve also won a fair amount from the online poker games.
All because of my old friend Andy way back when.
I looked him up in the phone book last year to see how he was doing, and let him know what kind of effect he had on that little mop-headed 16 year old I was.
He told me he has macular degeneration, and can’t see well enough to play cards anymore. That’s just about the worst thing that could happen to him. He had to give up his lifelong passion when he was retired and ready to enjoy it!
So recently I met the new Andy - the Andy Rosenfarb we were just talking about. It turned out he’s an expert on eye diseases, and thinks old Andy will benefit from treatments in his book. Macular degeneration makes up 80% of new Andy’s vision patients.
So… what made me all choked up is that Andy Rosenfarb offered to donate several hours of consultations with him as prizes. They’re valued at $200 an hour! The value isn’t the emotional part though. Not at all.
Think about it. What is anyone going to do with these consultations?
My guess - consult with Andy and find out how to save someone’s eyesight. Like my old poker-playing friend.
What a gift! “New” Andy, I owe you a beer - or whatever you’re drinking. But you may want to dump it on me after you read this.
Each hour-long consultation is more than enough to save one set of eyes. But I don’t see the need to talk to Andy for an hour to figure out how to save someone’s vision. So instead, as the grand prize marshal poobah, I’m going to use my superpowers to double the consultations by cutting them in half -to half-an-hour long! That means twice as many eyes saved.
Ta dah!
About right now, Andy might want to pour his beer or tea or whatever on my head. (I hope you’re not too mad, Andy! I’m sorry… Kinda… No, I’m not - this is too cool even if you’re mad at me.)
If you’ve got a patient with an eye condition, you can always book a consultation with Andy here. If you do that, and happen to win the prize, Andy has agreed to refund your money. You can’t lose.
Maybe you don’t realize how important this is. Saving someone’s sight is usually considered to be a miracle. If you save someone’s eyesight, what you paid in consulting with Andy will almost certainly more than pay for itself through the referrals you get. Personally, if I were a practitioner, I’d jump on it just for the satisfaction of helping someone like that.
Of course, you don’t have to talk to Andy about vision. You could just chat with him about how to use “The Law of Attraction” to turbocharge your practice, or whever else you’re curious about. Whether you win, or book a consultation, you can ask him about whatever you need to know.
Anyway, this is great. I hope you support Andy’s great gesture by booking a consultation with him if you have a patient that can benefit. I’m also halfway hoping I get that drink dumped on me just for the fun story it’s going to make. (I’m weird that way.)
By the way, my uncle Stan’s best friend had with macular degeneration, and committed suicide. Stan was the one who found him. This is a terrible disease - and YOU just might be able to give them hope. Please bookmark Andy’s consultation page - you never know when you might need it.
Thanks again Andy!
